About Momotaj Islam

I am a Clinical Psychologist, author, and speaker specialising in the psychology of menopause, midlife, and women's mental health. I help audiences understand that menopause is not only a hormonal transition, but often a profound psychological transition affecting identity, relationships, work, purpose, and emotional wellbeing.

I have over 26 years' experience in clinical work, teaching and supervising trainee psychologists and therapists. I continue to provide assessment and psychological therapy for adults, drawing primarily on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and third-wave approaches, particularly Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to help people develop resilience and psychological flexibility during periods of change.

I am the author of Coping With Menopause: Psychological Tools for Navigating the Transition and Living a Balanced Life (Sequoia Books). Through my clinical practice, writing, speaking, and training, I translate evidence-based psychology into practical, compassionate strategies that help women navigate the emotional challenges of midlife with greater confidence and self-understanding.

I also deliver training for healthcare professionals and workplace audiences, equipping them with a deeper understanding of the psychological dimensions of menopause and practical ways to better support women during this stage of life.

As a women's health advocate, I have a particular interest in improving the engagement and experiences of South Asian and Muslim women in mental health, menopause care, and psychological wellbeing, bringing cultural awareness and inclusivity to my work.

Speaking topics include:
•The psychology of menopause: understanding the emotional and cognitive impact
•Menopause as a psychological transition and how to navigate it
•Women's mental health and emotional wellbeing across midlife
•Supporting employees experiencing perimenopause and menopause
•Culturally informed approaches to women's mental health and menopause

My talks combine clinical expertise, current research, and practical psychological tools, leaving audiences with a deeper understanding of menopause and midlife, together with realistic, evidence-based strategies that can be applied in everyday life.
