I'm Dr Coral Westaway, a Clinical Psychologist and Energy Psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience supporting people to live easier, calmer, happier lives.
My specialism is chronic overgiving in therapists and psychologists: the pattern that shows up not as dramatic burnout, but as a persistent gap between the wholeness you hold space for in others and what you actually feel in yourself.
What I've come to understand, through both my clinical training and my own lived experience, is that therapists can know their patterns inside out and still not be able to shift them. That's not a failure of insight. It's because these patterns aren't held in the mind. They live in the body, in the energy system, in the parts of us that formed long before we ever trained as clinicians.
My work bridges mainstream clinical psychology with energy psychology, breathwork, bodywork, and parts work. I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, am HCPC registered, and have spent 18+ years exploring and integrating body and energy-based approaches alongside my clinical career.
In early 2021, my understanding of this interplay was tested in the most personal way. Emergency surgery revealed stage 3+ colon cancer, and I found myself navigating a 20% survival prognosis. Rather than choosing between approaches, I worked alongside Western medicine, surgery and chemotherapy, whilst drawing on everything I had learned: energy psychology, breathwork, bodywork, parts work, and the full depth of my own inner resources. That experience gave me a direct, embodied understanding of how profoundly our body, emotions, and energy are in relationship with one another; and how much is possible when we work with all of them together.
I work with therapists and psychologists who are ready to move from understanding their overgiving to actually shifting it; so that their practice becomes something that genuinely nourishes them, and their life reflects the wholeness they support others to remember.
I speak and write on the intersection of clinical psychology, chronic overgiving, embodied transformation, and the integration of energy psychology and spirituality into professional practice.
