About Abigail Goss

I am a HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologist and Chronic Pain Specialist. I offer private psychological therapy both online and in person in North Somerset. I am EMDR trained and offer intensive therapy retreats as well as weekly therapy. Therapy is only one aspect of what I do though as a Psychologist. I offer consultancy, supervision, training, Psycho-education and act as an Expert Witness. I enjoy what I do, I have a lot of passion for psychology and therapy, and as it turns out, I’m pretty good at it.

I have 10 years experience working in the NHS where I worked with a range of conditions and difficulties. For 8 years I was Lead Psychologist for a specialist award-winning NHS Community Pain Service and am trained in both NICE recommended treatments (CBT, ACT, CFT) and innovative evidenced based models for Chronic Pain including EMDR, Empowered Relief and Pain Reprocessing Therapy.

The science of pain has developed massively over the last decade and this has changed how we can treat pain. A better understanding of neuroplasticity and pain science means that now we are treating chronic pain by retraining the brain away from pain patterns.

I live with Chronic Pain and a sensitised nervous system so I understand what it is like to live with pain. I wanted to help myself and understand why my pain wasn’t going away and along the way I discovered that I find the pain science really interesting and that there were lots of different ways to help people with their pain. Pain is really complex but the more you understand the science of pain and why your pain is not going away the more options for treatment there are. There’s no magic wand but there are lots of things that can help. I’m not completely pain-free yet but I’m well on my way and most importantly it doesn’t stop me living the life I want to live.
