About Dr Claudia Hallett

I'm a Clinical Psychologist specialising in depersonalisation, derealisation and dissociation. With over 10 years of specialist clinical experience, I help people who feel detached from themselves, their emotions or the world around them understand what's happening and, most importantly, how they can recover. My work focuses on helping people feel present, connected and fully engaged in life again.

Alongside my private practice, I lead the UK's only national specialist NHS service for depersonalisation and derealisation disorder (DPDR), where I work with adults experiencing dissociation and anxiety-related difficulties using evidence-based psychological approaches, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy.
Alongside my clinical work, I have published research on depersonalisation and derealisation and co-developed a published cognitive behavioural model of DPDR. My work is driven by a commitment to advancing understanding of this often misunderstood condition and translating research into practical, evidence-based approaches that improve people's lives.

I'm passionate about challenging the misconceptions that surround dissociation. Many people fear they're "going crazy" or that they'll never feel like themselves again. Through therapy, teaching and public education, I aim to replace fear with understanding by making psychological science accessible, relatable and hopeful.
I regularly teach, supervise and train mental health professionals and enjoy making complex psychological concepts engaging and easy to understand. Whether I'm speaking on a podcast, contributing to the media, delivering workshops or collaborating on educational projects, I bring a warm, evidence-based perspective grounded in both research and extensive frontline clinical experience.

I speak on topics including depersonalisation and derealisation, dissociation, anxiety, cognitive behavioural therapy, recovery, mental health myths, and translating psychological science into practical strategies that help people feel more present, connected and confident.
