About Dr Erika Filova

I am an HCPC-registered Counselling Psychologist, accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Practitioner and EMDR-trained clinician with 11 years of post-qualification experience, including senior work within the NHS and specialist psychological services.

I help adults understand recurring patterns affecting their relationships, identity, body, health, emotional wellbeing and overall quality of life. My specialist background includes physical health psychology and chronic illness, including HIV, chronic pain and diabetes; eating disorders; obesity and weight management; body image; trauma; shame; and complex relational difficulties.

My work is formulation-led. Rather than reducing distress to a diagnosis or offering generic advice, I consider how someone’s history, relationships, body and wider circumstances interact: why particular ways of coping developed, what may be keeping them going and where meaningful change might become possible. I aim to make complex psychological ideas clear, relevant and accessible without oversimplifying them.

Alongside my clinical practice, I welcome opportunities to contribute to podcasts, media, writing, workshops and collaborations. Topics I can contribute to include health and medical psychology; chronic illness and identity; food, weight and body image; eating disorder recovery; GLP-1 treatment and bariatric adjustment; recurring relationship patterns; shame and self-criticism; perfectionism, burnout and imposter syndrome; and why understanding a difficulty does not always make it easy to change.
